The Train of 1000 to Auschwitz - Birkenau; May 2015

From September 1, 2015 till June 30, 2015 the Institute for Veterans and Victims of War, the FIR and the Auschwitz Foundation - Remembrance of Auschwitz organize an educational project on the Holocaust and Remembrance. The 5 day-trip from Brussels to Auschwitz, with 1000 youngsters and a visit to the concentration- and extermination camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau is the highlight. For this trip a special train has been organized: The Train of 1000.

The Train of 1000 unites 1000 European youngsters coming from some 10 countries: Auschwitz is a shared past. The many victims, who then have been sent to Auschwitz, came from several European countries. On the occasion of this journey of remembrance the youngsters coming from several European countries are confronted today with the reality of one of the greatest tragedies in history.

The Train of 1000 is jointly organised by the Belgian National Institute for Veterans and Victims of War, the Auschwitz Foundation - Remembrance of Auschwitz and the FIR- International Federation of Resistance Fighters at the occasion of the 70ste anniversary of the liberation of the camps and the victory over Nazism.
